How I Fuel

Fueling to me is a physical necessity, a pure joy, and an individual philosophy all in itself. We all need food to work out or just live; and a lot of us have varying views on what “good eating” is. I focus on a plant-based, whole food diet, and try to eat organic. That being said, I love a juicy burger once and a while if it’s from ethically raised, hormone free meat. I like to incorporate a little bit of everything in moderation.

I went from eating artificially sweetened yogurt with a diet soda to completely eliminating artificial ingredients from my diet. One of my personal mottos was–and still is–“Life’s too short for vanillin.” If we are what we eat, I want to eat quality foods. Since then, I’ve come to change my gaze from eating all-natural to eating what makes me feel comfortable at the time being. When we’re happiest is when we’re healthiest.

I’m not a vegetarian or a vegan, but I’m also not a meat-fanatic. My personal belief is to only eat meat for pleasure. I eat it when I’m in the mood for it, it’s properly prepared, and a choice cut that’s grass fed, cage free, sustainable, or wild.

As of February 2010, I’ve begun focusing on reducing/eliminating the gluten in my diet for a suspected gluten intolerance.

I eat first to fuel my hunger, second to fuel my appetite, and third to fuel my activities. But the most important thing of all is that I have fun fueling, and that’s what I want you to take away most. Be sure to enjoy food, love food, whatever your food philosophy may be.

This is great- love your outlook on food!

I just recently found your blog (via peanutbutterfingers) and I think it is awesome! Look forward to following you!

HI I just came across your blog recently (via i can’t remember who’s blog, sorry πŸ™‚ ) but am really enjoying your blog! thanks! πŸ˜›

how do you get your probiotics? pill? if so, what brand?

I’ve never tried any probiotic pills before. Mostly I get it through yogurt. If not that, kefir or frozen yogurt. I’ve also heard about a new granola-type bar with probiotics I’m going to be reviewing soon, and I’ve reviewed a lot of attune probiotic chocolate bars which were delicious.

So admirable. So inspirational.

Can’t wait to read more– seemslike you lead such a healthy, happy lifestyle πŸ™‚

Incredible! I never thought about food that way even though, I am trying to lose weight! I am a sincere follower.

im laughing outloud at your personal motto. i love it.

Hey! I just started a blog and found yours, so I thought I’d say hi :). I love your philosophy on food, especially how you eat whatever you want within reason -definitely a healthy outlook! I also love how you respect everyone’s differing views on food. I’m looking forward to using some of your ideas for inspiration in my quest to introduce more natural foods to my diet.

Just wondering why you are so big on probiotics?? I know they are beneficial…but they are something more on the upswing lately – and people survived years without them…just curious?!
I do like though that you don’t shun everything – some people say cut out all sugar and stuff…and I think extremes come back to bite you in the butt eventually!

I know that, while the body can adjust and do very well under many different diets, personally I feel best and most “regular” when I’m leading a life rich in probiotics. It’s a constant replenishment of the bacteria in our guts and helps to reap the benefits of the nutrients in our foods. I completely hope to be that man who dies at a ridiculous age and people say “I always saw him with a yogurt in his hand”.

I have been enjoying your blog tonight! Thanks for sharing your philosophy on food.

Hey dude,
Just want to say we love you blog, just found it, and def will be reading more.
