I’m just loving the little curve-balls life’s been tossing my way. Dropping over $40 last night online on some foodie goodies? Not expected, but I’ll roll with it! You might see some in due time 😉

Red Delicious Apple

I equally did not expect to be hungry after that fantastic dinner of burgers and fries but c’est la vie. I grabbed this perfect apple from the dining hall; it was the last one I had 😦 And I don’t think anyone was expecting for how bad some of those American Idols singers were; unfortunately, for the guy who sang Apologize, it’s too late to do the same.

Oatmeal With Chocolate Almond Butter

I was still starving for some reason, and so early in the night. Oatmeal to the rescue! With a little Justin‘s chocolate almond butter. I ate like 2 spoonfuls of this peanut butter the first month I had it, and now I’m ripping through it; where’d that come from? I did a lot of focusing on studying for my exam(ugh) while noshing on that. A little later came chocolate almond in a different form:

Hot Chocolate Made With Almond Milk

Hot yum! For this, I mixed 1 cup original almond milk unsweetened with 1 heaping tablespoon cocoa powder and some liquid vanilla stevia. Sooo good. Why don’t I crave this more? And it was surprisingly filling; I thought last night would be a hungry hungry hippo time, but after this I was just exhausted and ready for bed, so I did! Sensical and unexpected 😉

Nature's Path Organic Pumpkin-N-Spice Chewy Granola Bar

It was not unexpected by me that I’d need a snack before my run; that was not a lot of food before bed but I was just jiving with my hunger. I grabbed a Pumpkin-N-Spice bar, which I’ve decided tastes straight up like Apple Jacks, but are jacked up on Omega-3’s. If it looks like this photo was taken in the men’s room, it was(I was also putting in my contacts at the time). If it looks like I was still half asleep, I also was.

Running Part 1

Everything actually went just as expected this morning. For one, I knew no one would be in the gym when I got there; 6:40 on a rainy morning is not a popular time. I had 8 miles in mind, which is exactly what I went for. I split it up into 2 parts partly because I dropped my ipod and it went flying behind me(oops) and also because nature picked up her phone and gave me a rang.

Running Part 2

For those of you playing along at home, that would total 8 miles in 71:55, which is a good amount faster than yesterday–unexpected since I felt like I was slugging through it but well welcomed! Also well welcomed was breakfast.

I was a little nervous to have to eat breakfast in class while taking the test, but by this point I think the teacher expects that of me 😉 I swear there’s something addictive in flax oil because I crave smart balance agave sweetened like nothing else–it’s so savory! Love it. To add more omega-3’s, some Bob’s Red Mill hemp helped to mellow out the soy yogurt. I think they actually have a higher omega-6 content, but that’s not on the packaged label. Hmmm, knowledgeable opinions? The test went good enough. I know I could have prepared better but I still think I did really well, so I’ll take that as an unexpected win 🙂

Only 1 week without them and I forgot how crazy my Tuesday/Thursdays feel! I just keep telling myself “it’s almost the weekend”. It really is!

Butterfingers

You can call me butterfingers today for so many reasons. Then again, I can’t refuse some good butter 😀 Right after breakfast(with butter toffee peanut butter, no less), I hopped out to walk to Supercuts. I’ve gotten my haircut by the same person for–God–7 years, maybe? Maybe more. It felt like I was cheating on that person by going to someone else, but hey! I’m in another state! If it’s any consolation, my Tina does a way better job than whoever I had today. After I got back to my dorm, it was practically lunch time.

Microwave Popcorn

Who’s up for working ridiculous things into meals because you’re craving them? I am! I am! For what it’s worth, I believe this was Newman’s Own Organics‘ light butter; it didn’t say on the packaging but I don’t think I’d have boughten any other kind.

Steamed Broccoli, Scrambled Tofu, Buttered Popcorn

For a protein, I “scrambled” some tofu with a fork and cooked in a pan with soy sauce until it firmed up and came to be almost like eggs–yum! You should definitely try this.

Part of the browning comes from soy sauce, but part of it comes from the pan; that’s how you know it’s done. And in defense of popcorn, it is a whole grain! With moderate amount of butter and salt, it’s near perfection, too. This afternoon I was the other kind of butterfinger–the kind who’s constantly dropping the ball.

Apple

I grabbed this apple while I was throwing stuff in the laundry machine in the basement. On the good side of things, it was fresh and not at all mealy! On the downside, when has a tiny apple ever been a sufficient snack? It needed almond butter or peanut butter.

Greek Yogurt With Raspberry Dark Chocolate Jam

Which is why I made up another snack not 20 minutes later once I sat down to do some work. I’ve really slipped up recently by neglecting the good ol’ yogurt and jam–a classic combination. I might have also slipped up by assuming the fire alarm this afternoon was a drill, because eventually firemen showed up and the building was practically in lock down–double oops. It was not my kind of afternoon.

Coconut + Vanilla Macaroon, Almond Milk Vanilla Frosty

Once things settled down, I made a repeat snack from yesterday but with some twists: I used almond milk, sea salt, and vanilla agave for the shake and had a coconut + vanilla macaroon emmy’s organic macaroon on the side. The shake was noticeably more bitter, probably because a) Xagave is sweeter than normal agave I find and b) almond milk is naturally bitter. Next time I should try it with Xagave and cow’s milk to see how it tastes. When I was cleaning my food processor–blech. I don’t even want to say it.

Plastic Pieces

Butterfingers! I dropped the top piece and some plastic came off 😦 It looks like the whole thing should still work, but man! If you remember, this happened when I first bought my food processor and was able to exchange it; I think it’s been a little too long now. All I can say is I would not recommend the Black & Decker brand as it is far too fragile; if anyone has a food processor they want me to demo, I’m all game 😀

Mushroom Omelet With Colby Cheese, Vegetable Melange With Hemp Oil Sweet & Sassy Dressing

Dinner was so unexciting; I’m ready for this Lent thing to be over already! I just want a juicy burger 😦 Instead, I ate eggs, with a little butter in the pan to make them not stick. Exciting, huh? Well, this new dressing was sort of exciting, and loaded with healthy fats, too. I’d love to try it on something green like spinach with some sweetness(tomato). It has a nice sweet tang almost like BBQ sauce.

Clean Comforter And Jacket

I could slip into my bed right now like butter if it weren’t not-made. On the bright side, I did slip into a fresh out of the drier sweatshirt, which is always like a warm hug. Now, what gets butter off the fingers? Coconut oil?

I Have No Shame

Almond Milk Hot Chocolate

Don’t have shame in drinking your calories. Didn’t you hear? Hot chocolate and wine(once you’re 21) have been scientifically proven not to have calories. Joke’s aside, you probably won’t find a healthier hot chocolate than this.

  • 1 cup warmed vanilla unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons organic cocoa powder
  • stevia to taste

Did I just de-carbify the hot chocolate? I think I did. And no shame here making up words.

I have no shame admitting I do not care for LOST one bit. If it’s your thing, go right on ahead. I’ll take Idol, and The Biggest Loser, please.

I also have no shame turning off my computer at 9:40, with things still in the Google Reader, at a time when other students are just getting back to their room to start homework. I need my sleep–no lie.

Oatmeal With Mighty Maple And Chocolate Chips

I feel no shame in turning my oatmeal into a candy bar with Trader Joe chocolate chips. Holly’s amazing oat-creations have reminded me how much I used to adore these things, and now that I’m back to high milage, I’m pretty sure candy is encouraged, unshamefully.

Morning Dusting

I have no shame in admitting how much I love snow. Are you maybe a Virginian or D.C.er who’s been getting pummeled and hates it? Well here’s me admitting I’m totally jealous of you and would trade in an instant. Pretty please?

Peanut Butter And Jelly Larabar

Larabar has no shame in throwing some salt in to their peanut butter and jelly bar–thank God! A lot of the flavors of Larabars I just don’t care for, and they coud probably be improved tenfold with a touch of salt for sweetness. Dates and nuts need salt!

Who turned Pokemon on at the gym? Shamelessy–me! I needed something to get me through 8 miles in 71:53. And you know what? It worked!

Bicycle Stats

Do you know what else I shamelessly love? The Today Show with sound, which I wouldn’t have gotten if I went straight back to my dorm. So I stayed around for 30 minutes with my friend, Mr. Stationary Bike.

And no shame here admitting I was peddling as hard as this little tyke would be at resistance level 3.

Whoever left their soap in the shower clearly has no shame or germaphobia because that’s not something I’d do.

Trader Joe's Organic Avocado

I have no shame admitting I don’t eat as much organic vegetables as I’d like. Hell, I’d like to be able to say I grew this and everything, but that’s just not the case and buying organic isn’t always wallet friendly. This avocado, however, was a) organic and b) cheaper than the non-organic ones from Stop & Shop. Score.

It’s a shame that I haven’t shown my nut butter collection in a while; it’s just too big to fit into a photo! And it keeps growing.

Normally, I like to review new products and post them here. I have to say, though, that I don’t have time this morning, and I don’t feel shame in skipping this review right now because all these Justin’s Nut Butters I bought with my Christmas money and wasn’t sent for review(and they were worth every penny).

Clearly, I don’t feel shame piling on the fat for breakfast. And the way I shamelessly poured the sea salt on the oatmeal after this picture, you’d think I missed the ocean.

I’d feel no shame plugging any company who sends me avocadoes, cocoa powder, or coconut beverage every time I eat one of these pudding, but sadly that’s not the case(yet). Anybody? Please?
