Last night felt a little “special”, mostly because when does the weekend not? To celebrate this time, I broke out the good red stuff.

POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice

Nope, not wine. 100% pomegranate juice! To be honest, this stuff has been sitting in my fridge untouched for a while since POM sent it; I’m just not a big juice drinker since it’s something I rarely crave and is so full of sugars. I couldn’t do anything about the latter, but for once I really was craving this and thought I’d give it a shot. I liked how the flavor was tart like grape juice but then mellowed out with a sweetness–sort of like apple–at the end. It was still awfully sugary, but also full of potassium and antioxidants. While it’s not something I’d have every day probably, it’s definitely a treat I won’t be denying myself on the events I do crave it.

After all those carbs, I was happy for a lot of fats. Confession: I pretty much grew up having a few bowls of this ice cream daily at my grandparent’s house. Isn’t that what grandparents are for? Well, I haven’t bought it in a long time; I’m not even sure if the ingredients would fit my diet these days, and I know there are “cleaner” brands out there that’d be better. Even better, I knew I could fix this up in pudding form.

Chocolate Avocado Pudding With Peanut Butter Swirl

Chocolate avocado pudding, that is. I made a regular batch with coconut milk and vanilla stevia, and added a compote of 365 brand and brown sugar on top for the salt-sweetness. Was it just like the flavor? Not really. But then again what is :-/ While I ate this, I watched the new The Office. It was a ball of laughs and the best choice on TV. My favorite line was “What could be more important?” “I have an ice cream cake in the car” “Oh my God, what’s wrong with you? Are you insane? Go! Go! Go!” That describes my family all too well.

Oatmeal With Chocolate Peanut Butter

After that I didn’t feel too hungry; maybe the sugars in the POM weren’t as empty as I thought. Still, a 6:50 wake-up call for a run warented some nighttime oatmeals, so I heated up a bowl with Justin’s chocolate peanut butter. I love how adding the peanut butter and then continuing to microwave it makes it so the oats surround the pb and keep it in a warm blanket. I am going to run out of this flavor so soon; I hope they really do appear in stores on the East in mid-March like they projected! Also: who wakes up at 6:50 on a day with no class to run? Apparently me. But this time I had reason in the morning to push things a little earlier.

10 Miles in 88:24

You can just call me Speedy Peterson(Olympics, anyone?) 😉 Not really, but this was the fastest I’ve run since rehitting the treadmill in January, and makes me think I’m improving towards how I was in 2009. The last 2 miles felt like a bit of a drag; maybe because I didn’t have my magic apple beforehand? That and maybe the fact that time didn’t feel on my side, so my mind was elsewhere. I’m grateful for the quick run, no less.

Maybe some of my pomegranate loving slipped from last night to this morning, because I was so ready for some pomegranate Chobani. A dollop of coconut oil chocolate on top made it so good; I love the tart/sweetness combo. For the oatmeal, I had banana oats with Barney Butter; this combo always makes me think of Tina. So good! And now let the Friday time crunch begin.

Buttercream Is Just Too Easy

I am liking the whole meal planning thing. It’s soo good knowing how much food we really have and when it’s for. It’s interesting to find out things like, while it’s fun to have so many flavors of chips, they just don’t cut it for the entrees. Well I have things sorted out through Friday and it looks like we’ll be eating well 😀 For lunch, ironically, the first planned meal was “do what you want”. This let me eat some leftovers and my parents have their pasta.

Lightlife Savory Chicken Tenders, Microwaved Potato With Salsa, Garlic Broccoli

I’m the best at eating 1 serving of something and letting the rest sit around for far too long, so this time I decided to nip the Lightlife tenders before they went past savory and to funky. On the side I was craving some of the really spicy salsa we picked up at Market Basket, so I had a plain, starchy potato. So good! Seriously, this has some heat. Before we left to do errands I wanted to get all my food processor projects out of the way.

I made some of Jess‘ balls! her and Avery really know their balls(I’m sorry, but I just had to say it). We had leftover banana goodness bread sitting in the back of the fridge so I combined that with 4oz of cream cheese and made balls to get cold. After those hit the fridge, I threw out some of my less successful nut butters and whipped up a new one.

This one was definitely a winner! I just used 7oz of raw, organic almonds and mixed that up with 1/2 of my favorite white chocolate bar ever, the Divine white chocolate with freeze dried strawberries. I haven’t tasted this yet but the aroma is incredible–just like the chocolate! And I bet the nutrition isn’t terrible for something that must be flavorful. I can’t wait to put these over oats. My mom wanted to go to the mall to look for clothes for herself, and I easily obliged, mostly on account of this:

Seat Heaters

While it was 30 degrees outside, my butt was getting 76 degrees of heated seats. Aww yeah. My dad dropped her off at Macy’s and we went somewhere far more entertaining: Target! I contimplated getting the newest Harry Potter film, but passed up until it’s cheaper. Hell, maybe I can befriend Emma this semester and get it as a gift from her? Well, I can dream 😉 I did pop a drink open while shopping.

Walking around looking at things is tough work, you know! It was decent. I like the melony flavor because it reminded me of Summer, despite the fact that the weather oh so disagrees with me. I did end up getting a new pair of running shorts for 3.something on clearance 70% off. I’d say 90% of what I wear came from the Target discount rack or was a gift to me; I never buy expensive clothes. I’d rather eat well and wear the shopping bag, haha! Speaking of eating well, while we waited for my mom we went to the Framingham Whole Foods which is the only place so far I’ve been able to find the best protein bar I’ve ever had.

So good, and yet, not this afternoon. We picked up 2, and I thought I really wanted to eat one of them then, but I only got 2 or 3 bites in.

While these are tasty, they’re pretty much a candy bar unless you’re working out. And I knew I was hungry for food, so this would not do at the time. As much as I hate not finishing bars, I wrapped the rest back up for God knows when and waited until we got home to eat something real. I threw a really quick bowl of oatmeal together when I got in the door.

That definitely hit the spot so much more than the rest of the bar would have. I like Barney Butter because it’s pretty much how I imagine Jif or Skippy would be if they made those in almonds. I was a lot happier after that and ready to keep working with Jess‘ balls. I melted together a mish-mosh of chocolate: a Dark Chocolate Newman’s Own Organics bar, a Super Dark Chocolate Newman’s Own Organics bar, and 4 Unsweetened Bakers square. Really, I was just using things up because we didn’t have a bag of chocolate chips I wanted to use, but I like the resulting bitter chocolate.

These came out great. And they were so much simpler than I would have imagined! I’m keeping these in the back of my head for something different to bring to a dessert party that no one else will have(now, anyone want to invite me to a dessert party ;-)). I had leftover melted chocolate, and for a moment thought “What am I going to do with this?”. Where was my mind?! I quickly figured out what to do with it.

See? I knew if I made them once I’d be making them again real soon. I filled these with some Earth Balance peanut butter since that’s agave sweetened and would work with the bitter chocolate. After that, I had one last thing to “whip” up.

Vegan Maple Cinnamon Buttercream Frosting On Maple Cupcakes

Remember those maple cupcakes I made a few days ago? Well, most of them hit the freezer, but I kept a few out for my parents’ anniversary. I made a simple, small batch of vegan buttercream frosting 1 tablespoon Earth Balance butter spread, 1 tablespoon maple syrup, 6 tablespoons powdered sugar, and a dash of cinnamon. I always thought buttercream was something incredibly complex to make but this could not have been simpler! Mine might be a little lumpy, but that’s just because I was lazy. Knowing how easy it is to do is just a little dangerous. I mean, this is “healthy” in the sense that there’s no cholesterol, but it’s no superfood 😉 If you can believe it, cupcakes were not on the meal plan as dinner.

Grilled Steak, Green Beans, Nog Spiked Butternut Mash

This meal was so great; I can’t remember the last time I had something on the grill! It just has not been the right weather but we wiped off the snow and fired it up, and the meat came out nice and rare like I love it 😀 For sides, we steamed green beans and mashed butternut squash with 1/2 a cup Silk Nog. That last combination never gets old. I could practically eat a bowl for dessert. Now, I don’t think anyone has started picking at desserts yet. Then again, I haven’t been keeping a hawk eye on any of it, so who knows what’s left. I know there’s certainly no lack of things for me to eat up tonight.

Leftover Loaf

When it comes to leftovers, I usually have a love/hate relationship with them. At first, I dread the idea of having anything bearing over me in the future, like a time bomb in the fridge. After I get over the acceptance, I make it my mission to take the same food and make a completely unique and delicious dish with a layer of flavors. With my loaf, however, it was an entirely different story.

Vegan Meatloaf, Broccoli, Ketchup

I was looking forward to eating this vegan meatloaf just the way it was from the moment I made it. I mean, it’s a loaf, after all. It’s bound to taste better after resting a few days. I can’t say it was life-changingly different from how it first tasted, but I will say I enjoyed this very very much, and know I’ll be committing the recipe to memory so I can whip it up without turning my computer on. On the side I had some steamed broccoli and Trader Joe’s organic ketchip, as well as some of these:

Barbeque Pop Chips

More Pop Chips! I can not tell you how excited I was to try this flavor after hearing so much of it on other blogs. My opinion? Well, the Barbeque ones were by no means bad, but I definitely had higher hopes and liked the sour cream & onion ones way more. Oh well, there are some flavors left that might surprise me, too.

Also a slight disappointment? The death on Days Of Our Lives. I mean, death should never be something to look forward too… OK, who am I kidding? TV show drama is the bomb. But they kind of copped out by killing a character who hasn’t been present for 2+ years. Boo. They need another serial killer. OK, now that sounds weird(but it’s true).

Anyway, today I had plans for the afternoon; at my old high school they have an annual alumni basketball game where essentially all the alumni from every graduating class is invited to come play or watch, and then go bowling afterwards. My basketball talents are probably as good as Tiger Woods(I was a fencer throughout high school), but I was game for coming and chatting. On the car ride in to the city I had a chocolate tooth strike.

Errign gave me this bar as part of her giveaway that I won, which I reviewed here. She figured me out so well 🙂 Besides the obvious(that they’re chocolate), these are amazing because they’re also raw, alkaline, and, most amusingly, green! That was definitely a surprise the first time I bit in and looked down.

I got to the game once it had already started, and was a bit surprised at how few people showed up. No love for the alma mater? Thankfully, there were some good friends from my class standing around who I caught up with while we watched the game. Oddly, it didn’t feel like much had changed over time; I think it’s the magic of connecting/reconnecting with Facebook and the internet. After an hour, we started heading back home, but made a pit stop at Shaws.

I had heard Barney Butter was now at Shaws but checked the one closer to me to no luck. But in the city it was another story! Frankly, it was more than I normally care to pay for any nut butter, let alone one that’s not even flavored. However, I justified it in my mind by using money from Christmas that I specifically set aside for “fun” food purchases and the fact that I haven’t been and might not be in Boston for over 4 months. We hopped back in the car for a ride home through rush hour traffic. My, how I did not miss this. It was surprisingly light for a snowy evening, but we still got home a little late and I just wanted fast food.

To quote Ms. Spears, Oops, I did it again! I said I was a food blogger, never that I wasn’t repetitive 😉 That was the last of the vegan meatloaf, which went down a little to fast and is now sitting a little too heavy. And because I hadn’t had yogurt or very much protein all day, I opted for that instead of veggies on the side. The pumpkin butter(from a local farm), kind of tasted like baby food. But I kind of wasn’t complaining, because I’ve been thinking about hitting up that aisle for some interesting oat concoctions. And now there’s a new Ghost Whisperer on, which is kind of 10 times better than making a fool of myself bowling. This loaf better not loaf around in my stomach too long because I could use some weekend dessert 🙂

Fusions

Somethings were just meant to be: Peanut Butter and Jelly, Lucy and Ricky, Me and Emma Watson, Ross and Rachel–the list goes on and on. And the truth is that these pairs work better together more than on their own. So yesterday I was looking for things that worked better together than on their own.

Pecan Butter With Cashews

My first inspiration came from Artisana’s Pecan Butter. I really enjoyed the hint of cashews in this to make it more of an artisan nut butter so I thought I’d try to replicate that with the pecans I picked up from the natural food store and some Oh Nuts! cashews. I won’t reveal the “secret” ratio but I think this came out damn good and would get a 10/10 from my own scale. I will reveal that I roasted them all so the flavor would be more pungent, but I didn’t add any salt.

Butterscotch Peanut Butter

Butterscotch and peanut butter are definitely another flavor combo that was meant to be. I think Kath would agree with the number of times I’ve seen butterscotch chips on her oatmeal. For this I used 16oz raw peanuts I dry roasted, more butterscotch extract than I’d care to know, stevia, and 4 teaspoons brown sugar. The flavor is definitely unique; it’s not my favorite but it seems like one of those I might randomly crave at some point. After I played around on nutritiondata.com, it was time for dinner.

Thai Curry Chickpeas With Hot Sauce, Brussels Sprouts, Buffalo Bleu Chips

I think Frank’s Red Hot sauce + anything is amazing(as attested by multiple bloggers around here). My mouth was on fire after all of this. There was also lemon-thyme salmon on the table but a) I didn’t think the lemon-thyme and hot sauce would work and b) I didn’t feel like having meat this meal.

After dinner, as disgusting as it was, I was determined to find the receipt for the food processor so that I can work at getting a non-broken one. It just so happened to be in the same bag of trash which my mom threw out ALL of her receipts from balancing her checkbook. This was really like finding a needle in a haystack but we got it.

A little worse from ware but proof is proof. I think I continued to wash my hands for another 20 minutes to get off the coffee grounds and tofu, and then turned on I Love Lucy and picked up more fusion food.

Xocai Nugget And Power Square

Obviously, chocolates bestie is more chocolate, so I tried out Xocai’s nugget and power square. If you want to get technical, both of these are also fused with dried acai berries to increase their ORAC value, but really chocolate is chocolate. I liked these, but surprisingly they weren’t dark enough for me at the time. They tasted like a good 55% but I was expecting them to be more bitter-sweet. After a few good I Love Lucy episodes(a timeless show), I found more fusion in the kitchen.

These were soooo meant to be together. The jam was a Christmas present to my parents and is unreal; it has so much amaretto flavor! And it’s totally giving me ideas for more nut butters. The Barney Butter oddly separated in the squeeze pack so half was really hard and have was liquid. At least it still tasted OK. Lastly I had a 2nd daily probiotic source and hit the hay.

This morning I must have been lazy because I slept in 40 minutes. It is vacation, after all 🙂 But then I got “in the mood” for a good workout. I did my core with

  • 240 varying arm rotations
  • 5 sets of 7 chair swings
  • 40 squats(thinking back, I might have forgotten this one)
  • 70 rowers’ arms
  • 40 second pose hold
  • 70 standing marches
  • 100 sit ups
  • 100 air kicks
  • 70 tricep dips
  • 70 side crunches, both sides
  • 100 crunches
  • 50 second crunch hold
  • 40 push-ups(a little messy by this point)

After that I threw in 100 flights of stairs, which took about 30 minutes but flew by to some good ipod tunes. After that I knew exactly what was on the menu for breakfast.

Peanut Flour Yogurt

Pecan butter, earth balance, and brown sugar were most definitely all meant to co-exist(We are the woooorrld. We are the futurrre). I’ve come to think there is nothing better than to be able to think “I’m eating homemade pecan butter” and know it’s your home that made it! Now I just need to figure out how to homemake a cinnamon roll. Peanut flour and greek yogurt were equally meant to be for a 1-2 protein punch. Today’s agenda most definitely includes a trip to Macy’s to try and get a new food processor piece, and hopefully addressing 1 or 2 recipes on my to-do list.

A Day In NYC

Technically, yesterday started at around 4am when I woke up hungry and had a bowl of oatmeal with NuttZo. I didn’t bother taking a picture because I was hoping that wouldn’t be the most exciting part of my day(though NuttZo is always tasty);-). After I got back to bed, my alarm went off promptly at 6:45 and we hit the road by 7:20. The plan was to drive to a Stamford, Connecticut to take the train in to NYC. The car ride was such a great time to relax and get away from anything; I read 3 out of 5 magazines I’ve had lying around since October! Bliss. Somewhere along the way I “made breakfast”.

2% Chobani With Kashi Vanilla Creamy Oatmeal, Barney Butter, And A Vitabrownie

I think being a sort of food McGuiver is so much fun! I had a bag packed of snacks and I was determined to make something healthy and well balanced out of it and I think I did. I mixed a packet of vanilla oatmeal with Chobani, salt, and stevia and let that sit and soften the oats. Then I added some Barney Butter I was sent to sample and review a while ago and this was the perfect opportunity. On the side, for good balance(or chocolate. Yeah, definitely chocolate) was a vitabrownie. This was delicious. I liked the Barney Butter more than I remember and might pick up a jar if I see it on the shelves. At 11:30 after a 60 minute train ride we arrived.

It wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be the day before Christmas Eve but still when is NYC not hustling and bustling? We had to rush to meet our Georgian friends for lunch at 12 at Carmines. They’ve wanted to eat here for years and finally got reservations. Honestly, the restaurant couldn’t have been a worse fit for me. The whole mindset behind it was gargantuan portions of meat and pasta served family style(I don’t have anything ethically against pasta, I just happen to be one of the few Italians who doesn’t like it). Still, I stuck with my guns and found a meal somewhere in there.

The salad was OK; very oily. The mushrooms were good with salt and red pepper. At the same time, I don’t think mushrooms should ever constitute a meal. Everyone else at least had a good time and had their fill of fried calimari, meatballs, penne, and lemon cream sauce chicken.

Afterwards we had to finish up and rush off to a 2 o’clock matinée. It’s a tradition that we always see a play when we meet them in New York. It’s not my cup of tea but they’re a very artistic family and enjoy this stuff. It’s always a surprise what we’re seeing because they go to the box office that morning and find the discounted shows and choose from those. This year it was Mary Poppins.

The show was great; technically it was probably the most amazing one we’ve seen. With trap doors and wires, they had Mary flying through the sky and even replicated her bag that holds far too much. I might have dozed off a bit during supercalifragilisticexpialidocious but it was only because the theater was so nice and warm. Midway through I had a snack.

That definitely curbed my hunger for the rest of the show. Afterwards, we had some time left with them so we worked out a new plan. My dad, knowing Goji Gourmet cookies were on my Christmas list, located some in the city so we decided to walk to a coffee shop that sold them. Of course, we took in the sights as we walked.

Interestingly, the numbers still say 2009; when do you think they’ll change that? It was cold out–about 26. I managed to step in not 1 but 2 puddles. I’m a genius, right? Fortunately, we were able to find the little coffee shop and grab some cookies which now are under the tree. We also convinced the man behind the counter(who probably thought we were crazy tourists and was sooo right) to get a group photo.

We 3 are on the right and the other 5 are them. Really, what was going through our mind was “Please take 20 more so we can stand in your warm shop without having bought much”. After that we walked back into the car they rented and drove around to take in some of the sights that were too cold to walk to.

I grabbed this while we were in the car. This bar was also sent to me and it seemed perfect to save for a day like this when yogurt would not be as handy. overall, it was OK. The yogurt coating was soooo good, but the fruits and nuts were a little M.I.A. But with probiotics and 4g fiber, it was a good deal. We drove past the tree at Rockefeller center and then ended up back at Grand Central Station where we said our goodbyes until we see them again in July.

Dinner was a bit of a debacle; frankly, I was a little upset having only eaten mushrooms and bars I brought all day and wanted somewhere nice. At the same time, all we could find was chains and ones that served mostly meat. Just when we were about to give up and grab something quick and board the train, we found this restaurant hiding in Grand Central Station.

Yes, it was more meat. But this was good sounding, local meat that I could really get into without questioning. It was a bit pricey but how often do you get to eat in Grand Central Station? My mom wanted just a salad and my dad and I funnily enough chose the exact same entree.

This sounded sooo good. It was a piece of white meat and dark meat chicken in a truffle broth. Underneath were broccoli rabe, oyster mushrooms, and soft and tender potato gnocchi; it was heavenly. I gave my dark meat to my mom(her favorite) and practically cleaned the bone of the other. The desserts sounded good, too, but I figured there’d be enough of those over the coming days and I was full. We ended up catching an 8:10 train and getting to our car at 9:30, driving home by 12:15. In the car I had a dessert of my own.

I found these cookies at the same bakery that served the Goji Gourmet ones. Peanut butter and chocolate; how could I resist? They were also fairly healthy with simple ingredients like whey protein, rolled oats, peanut butter, eggs, brown sugar,chocolate chips, butter, baking soda, and salt. They were really delicious; I thought the protein powder might affect the flavor but not at all. I also ate an apple in the car but that wasn’t nearly as exciting. When we got home, I pretty much passed out in my bed; it was 90 minutes after my bed time afterall 😉 And this morning I got to wake up to a full inbox and google reader. Joy to the world, and happy Christmas Eve!

Time Crunch

Thank God there’s so little expectation to get anything done on Friday because I certainly didn’t(anything productive, that is. Plenty foodie). Yesterday morning I was in a bit of a downer mood after my not-so-splendid 10 mile run. After I thought about it, I realized how great it was that I’ve come to the point where I can run 10 miles and became thankful for that, forgetting the rest. 1 bad day can never spoil the week. It also might of helped my mood when shy, slightly uptight girl who sharpened a pencil with her knife(remember her?) felt extremely uncomfortable translating a poem with the words “sex session” in it. After everything that was translated in that class, she could have gotten much worse. I didn’t think anything would top the vitatop with chocolate sunflower butter I had for breakfast, but the lunch room certainly did a good job trying:

I’m not sure I know what Chana Masala is other than magical and Indian. Best yet, I know if the lunch rooms version is this good, the authentic stuff must be amazing. I’ll have to track that down. The mushrooms were meant to be stuffed in a hoagie bun but I liked them straight up with a fork(plus, the buns in our lunch room, despite being whole wheat, have partially hydrogenated oils in them. No thank you). I love a nicely cooked mushroom for all its earthiness and thought this was excellent, although the dried herbs were a little tough to get between the teeth. Between Greek History and Epic Poetry I checked my mailbox and was excited to find these!

The tiny package was some samples of Barney Butter. I see that brand all the time on Carrots N’ Cake and I can’t wait to try it out. The other was a letter from my Aunt Leslie who I saw over the weekend. It was a thank you card and picture from the birthday party and she even slipped a little present in to buy “yummy food” with. Oh, I will 🙂 At Epic Poetry we got the essays from last Friday back. I didn’t even look at it all through class and later until 5. Frankly, the grade didn’t matter to me when I realized I think I’m the only Freshman in that class and I haven’t taken a formal English course since 11th grade. It’s a class I’m taking because I want to, not because I need to, and the important thing is enjoying it. I actually did better than I expected: a B. That’s somewhat what I was used to in High School English class, which was always my weakest area. I think she went a little lenient on me because she knows I’m under prepared compared to the rest of the class.

When I got back to my dorm, I had an itch to go see the weekend sales at Whole Foods. It was a bit of a cold walk but thankfully not raining? Looking on the bright side here. I perused Whole Foods and Eastside Market. Seeing swordfish on sale is like a knife in my heart with no way to cook it; I should man up, buy a pan, and make use of the communal kitchen in my basement. What I did end up getting was just as good, though:

The Oikos and Attune were from Whole Foods; I found the dark chocolate flavor! Can’t wait to give that one a taste and review. Vitabrownies were “on sale” at Eastside Market(though not for cheaper than I could get them at home) and I had such a hankering for them recently I needed to grab them. I also got a jar of my favorite Banana Pineapple Rum Jam. At 7.19 a jar, it’s definitely a luxury. I decided to forgo getting a cupcake for Cookie Friday and just be content with the money I spent. I did get my cookie on in another way, though:

Close enough, right? I spent way too much time walking around, so I didn’t get to eat this until around 5, at which time I had a ton of online reading and reviewing to get done(did you catch my seed butter reviews?). What happened here? Like I said, thankfully there’s no expectations for the first day of the weekend in my book. I was honestly not feeling up to eating at the dining hall; they didn’t have anything I wanted, it was freezing out, and I was still feeling overwhelmed. Instead I decided to make a mess of what I have:

I’m not nearly as talented with yogurt messes as some other bloggers, but I think I make up for that with these. The vegetable mess was with a medley of peppers, zuchinni, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, plus a sliced sweet potato. The macaroni was Trader Joe’s instant microwave mac n’ cheese with 1/2 can tuna and 1 1/2 strips tempeh bacon. Basically, it was one big salty delicious mess, especially with added sea salt. I caught up to The Office and 30 Rock. I love that that show’s back. Bring it on, Liz Lemon. I hope Pam and Jim get back soon, though. She needs to have that baby!

Ghost Whisperer was touching, as usual. I love it when that show doesn’t try anything fancy but just goes with its regular formula. I might or might not have had this dessert planned since Wednesday:

I never did the brownies and milk thing as a kid, but this is definitely my style. I took a regular vitabrownie and added caramel sauce after microwaving it. I couldn’t microwave the kefir without killing the probiotics, so instead I let it sit at room temperature for the afternoon which got it warm enough. Yum! That’s my milk and brownies for ya. I’m still on the look out for a good store bought kefir. I love the tang to it and want to find one like that. Something tells me the Farmers’ Market one is whole milk and it’s a little heavy for a nutritious drink. In fact, it was so heavy I didn’t bother with the last 1/3 of the glass; that was more than enough for me. With my sample of Barney Butter, I needed to give the oats I drool over on Carrots N Cake a try:

For this I whipped half a banana until the fiber was practically gone, cooked the oatmeal in that like usual, and topped with Barney Butter. I was so impressed how thick 1/2 a banana made the oats! I’m not a huge banana fan, but if I was it really would have given pumpkin a run for its money(watch out, Libby). I loved how much of a melting butter Barney Butter was, but I’m not sure I got a good sense of the flavor. My first impression was a little bland, which was unexpected for a nut butter with sugar and sea salt. I added a ton more sea salt and enjoyed the bowl that way; I’ll have to give it a second taste before reviewing. I also figured I’d end the day the way I started it for good measure:

I say “bread” and not “toast” because I was too impatient to eat the sunflower butter to make toast; what can I say? It’s good and I’m lazy. I forgot I’m not the only member of the blogosphere who loves Vermont Co. Bread; it’s one of pbandjenny’s favorites. We have good taste 😉

This morning I got to sleep in until 8:30 since the gym won’t open until 9. I actually got such a good nights sleep that it was hard to sleep in. Can you imagine that? Oh what a hard life I live… I was the first one in, obviously, and got some good running in to the tune of Saturday morning cartoons(much funner than CNN in my opinion). I broke the machine again. Broke as in it wouldn’t go as fast as it said it was after a while, so I jumped ship and moved to another. Overally I did 8 miles at a challenging pace and finished in 64:33.

When I got back and showered I didn’t sit down to breakfast until 10:40! Well now I just feel lazy. For a quick breakfast I went for quick oats–quick cooking that is. I tried out one of the new oatmeals Nature’s Path Organic sent me. I’ll be sure to start my next post with a review, ya know, once I actually get a chance to eat it and all 😉 And of course some Oikos with peanut flour was welcomed to the table. My Oikos didn’t have a code under the lid 😦 Does anyone know if it’s because it just wasn’t new enough a container or are they only under Stonyfields lids?
